Fleet
& District Carnival will be
holding its Golden Anniversary carnival
week during 2-12 July 2005. As ever it
will be a fun-packed week-long event for
all the family raising money for local
charities and good causes. It is widely
regarded as one of the biggest and best
Carnivals in the south of England. This
year we plan to make it better than ever.
Carnival Week starts
on Saturday 2nd July with the Children's'
Procession. Led by the excellent Hampshire
and IoW Air Training Corps Band, the Carnival
Princesses, floats and walkers will parade
along Fleet Road to The Views ending with
a new event for 2005, the Great Adventure
Balloon Race, a 500 balloon race released
by the Carnival Princess.
Carnival gets into
full swing on Wednesday 6th July when
an exciting new event, the ToteSport Race
Night takes place in the Carnival Marquee
featuring video screen racing. It offers
a great opportunity for local business
and firms to sponsor a race and horses.
With Tote betting, a bar and 'pub' supper
it will be a fun night out for a company
or office team. Why not sponsor a race
and don't get left in the stalls! On the
same evening the ever popular Walls funfair
will begin on The Views.
On
Thursday 7th July in the Carnival
Marquee will be a Night of Music performed
by the local Starburst Theatre youth group
and outside will be the Carnival Car Boot
Sale. On Friday 8th July will be another
new event for 2005, a Bridge and Cream
Tea Afternoon held at the Lismoyne Hotel,
Fleet. It promises to be a very relaxed
and social event in gracious
surroundings. The tempo picks up later,
when the Under-18s Gig in the Carnival
Marquee provides great live entertainment
and a showcase for up and coming young
local bands. Friday 8th is also 'Dance
Night' featuring a Ceroc Jive Dance at
the Lismoyne Hotel, Fleet and Line Dancing
at the Harlington Centre, Fleet. How ever
you dance do it on Dance Night. Also on
Friday 8th July will be the "Battle
of the Pubs" Tug of War Competition
on The Views.
Saturday
9th July will see another new event
for 2005, the Carnival Dog Show. The show
will be a not too serious competition
which will be as much fun for owners as
their dogs. Dogs of all shapes and sizes,
whether pedigrees, scruffs or mutts are
welcome! Also on Saturday 9th July is
The Grand Procession and this year's theme
is "50 Glorious Years" to celebrate
Carnival's Golden Anniversary. The Procession
will leave Courtmoor Avenue at 6.30pm
finishing at The Views. Following the
Grand Procession 'Elvis' makes a comeback
and begins rocking the Carnival Marquee
late into the night, don't miss this!
The
Family Fun Day will take place
from 12-4pm on Sun 10th July on The Views
and will be opened by a flypast from an
RAF Chinook helicopter from nearby RAF
Odiham. It will also feature a Classic
Car and Bike Show, a falconry display,
Circus workshop, and Professor Chippy
Wood's Punch and Judy show and fantastic
balloon modelling. A tempting Hog Roast
will be available for Sunday lunch, trade
and craft stalls will be attending and
Walls funfair will be in full swing. During
the evening on Sunday 10th, Churches Together
in Fleet and Church Crookham will be holding
'Songs of Praise' in the Carnival Marquee.
On Mon 11th July Carnival continues with
the Baby Show and ToteSport Quiz Night.
Carnival 2005 comes to a great end with
the traditional Bingo Night on Tues 12th
July.
