We
are the leading local wildlife conservation
charity in Hampshire and the Island. The
Trust seeks to increase people’s
involvement in their local environment
and in turn achieve better conditions
for wildlife. We care for over 60 wildlife
reserves – more than 6,500 acres
of valuable wildlife habitat – and
by providing volunteering, education and
training opportunities, we enable individuals
and communities to provide sustained benefit
to these essential wild places.
Not only do we manage our own land, we
also advise other landowners how to manage
their land with wildlife in mind. We carry
out surveys and gather data to monitor
how our local wildlife is doing. We work
to protect wildlife on land and in the
sea – so that we can all enjoy a
future rich in wildlife.
The Isle of Wight is one of the richest
wildlife counties in lowland Britain.
Despite growing pressures from housing
development, industry, agriculture and
tourism the Island still supports an astonishing
range of flora and fauna.

for Biodiversity Project
The Wight Wildlife
Parternship
Wight Wildlife was formed in 1993 to combine
the expertise of two of the Island's major
conservation charities, the Isle of Wight
Natural History Archaeological Society
and the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Wildlife
Trust. In 2001, we welcomed the Wight
Nature Fund into the partnership. By working
in partnership and pooling our resources,
we strengthen the wildlife conservation
effort on the Island.

Wildlife Conservation
Wildlife is not restricted to wildlife
reserves and special places, it is found
throughout the wider countryside and in
our towns and cities.
The Biodiversity team at Hampshire and
Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust works to
protect and enhance wildlife wherever
it is found, by positively engaging those
involved in managing land, or making decisions
about land use, working with a range of
partners including private landowners,
public bodies and local communities. The
team also ensures the Trust’s work
is based on sound science by gathering
necessary information to monitor the status,
set priorities and support the case for
wildlife conservation.
Get Involved
Do you want to make a difference? The
Hampshire and Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust
relies on volunteer support in all areas
of its work. Volunteer opportunities include
practical conservation work on reserves,
surveys, giving talks and leading guided
walks, helping with our administration,
marketing and membership recruitment.
There are always a number of projects
where volunteer help is vital. Regular
updated information can be obtained from
our Volunteering Officer, who can be contacted
on 01489 774412 or feedback@hwt.org.uk.
Education and
Community
The Hampshire and Isle of Wight Wildlife
Trust is extensively involved in Education
and Community activities. Our people and
wildlife work has one over-arching aim
of achieving an environment that is richer
in wildlife for everyone to enjoy. We
are committed to promoting increased public
awareness of wildlife and conservation
issues and enabling people to take the
necessary steps to improve their local
wild places.
